The Universo do Café – Distribuicao de Café, Lta.  was founded in Porto in 1998. From the first moment on, its founder – Pedro Brito – showed his concern in creating a unique company. The first expansion plans have been worked out in the company’s offices, located in the centre of the city of Porto. Delivering coffee to the nearby districts was the first achieved goal. The north of Portugal came next. Later on, Ionia reached the Azores and Madeira. Spain, especially its capital city Madrid was then the milestone of the expansion abroad.

As the company has planned to continue to expand its operations, grow its sales and pursue opportunities, though in a balanced way, it rapidly turned into a company which exports cups to Italy and Germany. From Italy the cups travel to all over the world. And while in the country people gather to block the advance of the Asian invasion, the company started exporting coffee to China. The company’s motto? Slow but steady wins the race.
